The concept of the design has a focus on the slogan of the Paris event, which is “made for sharing”. With this in mind, Starck created a unique design that allows the main medal to be split into three other smaller medals that can be offered to anyone the winner fells is also deserving of the award.
The medals feature a rugged edge and illustrative embellishment on the front, but the main feature it’s clearly the possibility to split the medal into several parts. This is a visionary new style of Olimpic Medals that take the Olimpic Spirit to a new level.
“Today, more than ever, the truth is that you’re not winning alone, so I wanted this medal to reflect that…If the winner wants to share it, they can share it. It’s a really nice way of truly showing team spirit. The winner can literally take his or her medal and separate it into pieces to be given away,” disclosed Philippe Starck, in regards to his motivation to create this exceptional design which has been praised by so many French dignitaries.
