Christian Liaigre is known for being one of the best French interior designers in the world. He’s the perfect example of a designer that possesses a variety of collections of several types of furniture objects ranging from furniture, lighting, and textiles to leathers and accessories. Today, Paris Design Agenda would like to present one of the designer’s projects, a paradise retreat in Kawanaga, that he created alongside Kengo Kuma.

The Retreat in Kawanaga sits of a home located at the hot sulfur springs in the Kanagawa prefecture. It’s a private property composed of the main home, a SPA two guest houses, and a tea house. This home is already a stunning view in it of itself, not to mention the unique view it has towards Mout Fuji. This incredible team-up of Christian Liaigre and Kengo Kuma definitely had its fair share of results, and this stands as an amazing example of established perfection.

Both on the inside and the outside we can tell that the home handled by Christian Liaigre and Kengo Kuma knows and interprets the essential elements of traditional Japanese homes. However, it handles them with a modern take through the essential shapes and materials. The combination of each designer’s identity and the own concept of the cultural location transformed this project into a luxurious retreat.

Many of the elements that are part of the home decor feature white walls and black-stained woods custom made furniture. These are heavily inspired by the Shodo (referring to Japanese calligraphy) creating a unique combo of black and white this way. Christian Liaigre definitely knows how to adapt to the culture of Japan in this successful interior design project.

As a matter of fact, an observant person can definitely detect Christian Liaigre’s style with some pretty spacious and generous shapes in direct connection with the delicacy and discretion that defines traditional Japanese culture. Although they’re completely different elements, they converge in the most idyllic manner possible.

By having Kengo Kuma onboard this incredible initiative, the French interior designer proved once again that he’s not only a great professional but a very versatile interior decorator. This is just one more Christian Liaigre‘s project that continues to impress every interior design lover and we can’t wait to see what comes next!
