Every year the window displays in Paris’s major department stores are transformed for the Christmas season. Boasting mechanical puppets, fairytale themes and beautiful lights they often feature creations of top designers and remain all throughout the festive season until the beginning of January for shoppers’ viewing pleasure. The following department store window displays in Paris feature amongst the most popular.
Galeries Lafayette
Entitled “Once upon a time, before the clock strikes midnight“, Galeries Lafayette‘s offerings this year comprise magical scenes from the classic fairytale “Beauty and the Beast”. Five of the windows located on rue de la Chaussée d’Antin have been decorated with scenes inspired by Christophe Gans brand new “Beauty and the Beast” film starring Vincent Cassel and Léa Seydoux. Furthermore, in addition to the beautiful Christmas window displays, a 4-metre Christmas tree located beneath the store’s art-deco cupola comes to animated life on the stroke of the hour thanks to a contribution by the watch company Swatch in celebration of their 30th anniversary. Christmas scenes in a village feature with little bears, mice and owls, Lilly the doll, her teddy bear friend Martin and Mr. and Mrs. Wolf all accompanied by festive music.
Printemps Haussman
This Christmas 2013, prestigious Parisian department store, Printemps Haussman has invited Maison Prada to decorate their window displays for the festive season. Entitled “Joyful Obsession by Prada“, one features bears frolicking in the snow, swinging from strands of lights and dancing along to catchy Christmas tunes whilst another boasts snowy mountains with Prada bears enjoying winter sports. Another more fashion-themed display features a large Christmas table laden with silverware, porcelain and sequined Prada heels whilst a mannequin in Prada fashion sits astride a sports car complete with glittering lights in another window. None other than Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow was there to unveil Printemp’s Christmas windows in November. Finally, completing this magical scene is a glittering Santa’s sleigh guided by his reindeers, accompanied by a shower of stars and snowflakes, gliding across the façade of Printemps.
Bon Marché
“It’s Christmas Time!” at Bon Marché with their seasonal window displays featuring evocative titles including “Time Standing Still“, “Time of Dreams“, “Time of Surprises” and “An Instant in Time“. Metronomes, animated cuckoos and egg timers, with shimmering white and gold birch trees in the backdrop, set the scene for a range of seasonal goodies on offer this Christmas 2013 in this prestigious Parisian department store that celebrated its 160th anniversary last year.
BHV Marais
Finally, “Chef’s Christmas” is on the menu with BHV Marais who have opted for a food-themed display this festive season. They pay tribute to three top Parisian chefs, Inaki Aispitarte, Bertrant Grébaut and Delphine Zametti, and feature mouth-watering displays making reference to unique dining experiences at unusual locations in the popular Marais district in Paris. Accompanying these beautiful window displays is a festive programme of dinners, recipe creation workshops and shows.
