The latest design news is about Philippe Starck, who needs no introduction. He’s done everything, from product to interior design. This time around, an oven, dishwasher, microwave, and refrigerator with fully mirrored panels and minimalist controls were the result of the kitchen collection he designed for Gorenje. This collection embodies superior design, combined with cutting-edge technologies delivering high performances and unique energy efficiency.

Because he thinks traditional appliances are “boring,” Starck said that the key to his collection is that the people using a kitchen will see themselves, their family, and their homes instead of the machines that do the work to make breakfast, lunch, and dinner happen.
Using mirrored platforms is a trick; In the words of the designer “I cannot impose color — the color comes by reflection.” This means that the collection will match any color palette. In fact, it echoes the tones that are already in one’s kitchen.
The appliances are meant to bring balance and harmony to any kitchen. And although these kitchen appliances carry a designer label, Starck assured that they will still be affordable.
After this collaboration, and about kitchen design, Starck explained: “It is very difficult to design (kitchens) because you are in between many parameters which do not fit together. You want something which works perfectly well, with the right material qualities, but you do not want to live in a space ship — you are not in space. You want something, cosy, human — but you do not want to live in a county farm. Finally, perhaps I have found my solution by making everything as minimal with the least possible design, and, give space to the people who are going to use it to live in because it is mainly their reflection. And, on top of their own reflection, we also work on the idea of a little avocation of color.”
