MARCO LAVIT NICORA NOMINATED BY ROSITA MISSONI
Marco Lavit Nicora studied architecture at L’École Spéciale d’Architecture in Paris and the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology. His early collaborations with Riccardo Blumer and LAN Architecture introduced him to his talents and led to him later founding the Atelier Lavit in Paris, a project covering Italy and France, in the fields of design and architecture.
Marco attributes his work’s essence to his interaction with artisans, especially italian ones, and his ability to learn with them. One of his prime works is the Venezia lounge chair, made on purpose for the Venice Design Biennal.
Marco says, a lounge chair is “the most complex piece imaginable to design: because no other type of furniture interacts with the body quite as much, almost like an article of clothing.”
Fashion designer Rosita Missoni, Marco’s sponsor for the Rising Talents award, states:
“Marco Lavit Nicora is a young talent, heir to a long line of Italian designers who have placed function at the core of their practice and who have learnt to use only the best materials and artisans our country has to offer to achieve that vision. I was especially moved by how light his pieces look, despite the fact that they are deeply anchored in classical design.”
Marco will be presenting his Venezia collection at M&O, including items such as the Reconvexo table and Atem, a modular sofa, all produced exclusively by Milan-based Nilufar Gallery, as well as a work-in-progress chest of drawers with a table and stool incorporated.
